WATER TREADING IS A KEY SURVIVAL SKILL
Every swimmer must know how to water tread. Especially for open water swimmers, it could save your life. Gain confidence in the deep water by learning how to water tread, knowing that you can keep afloat for a long time, no matter the situation.
For your open water races, you MUST know how to water tread to:
- Save your own life! Keep calm, survive in an emergency situation until help arrives
- Find your direction in the open water
- Readjust your goggles
- Refuel with water or power gel
- For deep water starts - don't start the race exhausted from trying to keep afloat!
- Swim safely without a safety buoy for events that disallow its use
We'll also be teaching additional survival skills such as use of safety buoy and self defense techniques. At the end of the session, we're going to test your confidence with a SEAL challenge!
______
WE HAVE 2 LEVELS:
FOR BEGINNERS, you will learn basic water treading (sitting position) and how to float. The movements are simpler, less coordination is necessary and it is easy to learn. This is for those who are scared of the deep water and preparing to swim in the open water for the first time. It is more important that our swimmers are safe rather than how advanced the technique is used.
Entry requirements: Able to swim 25m breaststroke/freestyle, no water phobia
FOR INTERMEDIATE swimmers, the methods require high fitness in the water. You will learn the more advanced techniques (egg beater kick & frog kick) to keep your head above water at all times. It will enhance your water confidence and ability to face the elements in the open water.
Entry requirements: Able to swim 100m breaststroke/freestyle, confident in the water
