FAQs

  • Is it safe to swim during the Covid-19 pandemic?
Yes. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), ‘swimming in a well chlorinated pool is safe’, while the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says that the ‘CDC is not aware of any scientific reports of the virus that causes COVID-19 spreading to people through the water in pools.' At the same time, we take additional precautions and adhere to strict Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). We will: Ensure only coaches who are fully vaccinated will be teaching Coach from the deck; but enter the water with you when necessary Wear a face mask during coaching Monitor the social distancing between coach, student and other swimmers Sanitise shared equipment before and after use
  • Why should I learn swimming from you?
If you’re an adult looking for swimming lessons, then you’ve come to the right place. We are the only swim school in Malaysia that specialises in adult coaching, which means, we have studied and coached more adults than any other swim school in Malaysia. Why is this important? Our bodies develop into different shapes and sizes as we become adults, which also means our bodies sit and move differently in the water from one person to the next. So contrary to what is commonly practised - a one-size fits all approach to all adults and to adults & children alike - we recognise how these differences play a major role in how you learn to swim and tailor our coaching to you accordingly. So if you've struggled to learn to swim in the past or you're still struggling, come give us a try!
  • I am old, can I still learn to swim?
Yes! We get this question from people as young as 18 up to 75 which shows age is just a number and a limit we might be placing on ourselves. From our experience, yes you can learn to swim as an adult. In fact, adults learn to swim quicker than children because adults are able to understand instructions and practise on their own. We’ve seen this in hundreds of our students. When you see children swimming happily, what you don’t realise is that they have been taking lessons for years. We love teaching adults to swim because we love seeing the pride and sense of achievement in their faces when they’ve unlocked this new skill which they never thought possible.
  • Where are you located?
Our lessons are conducted at PJ Palms Sports Centre, Lorong Sultan, Seksyen 52, 46200 Petaling Jaya, Selangor. As we do not have a physical office, all lessons are by appointment only. • What will I learn in your programme?
In our Learn To Swim programme for adults, we will ensure you get a good foundation in swimming. As a starting point, you will learn the breaststroke (frog style) which enables you to swim leisurely and get used to moving in the water. You will also learn water treading which is a key survival skill that allows you to float and feel comfortable in the water. These are the basics that any swimmer must have. You will then learn the freestyle which is the stroke you want to master if you want to swim for fitness or to participate in open water events. Being able to swim freestyle would put you on the journey towards becoming a competent swimmer.
  • Do you provide private lessons?
Yes, we provide private lessons for Learn To Swim on a 1-to-1 basis and in a private group of 2 pax. From our experience, this has been the most effective and efficient arrangement for adults learning to swim, hence we do not teach in larger groups.
  • How long does it take for me to learn to swim?
This varies person to person but on average, you'll be able to swim within your first 10 lessons. To achieve this, your commitment to learning is required as well. We recommend that you schedule your classes at least once a week and practise what you learnt in between classes. This means you'll be able to swim within 10 quick weeks, or sooner depending on how much work you put in - how magical is that? In any case, don't worry about how quickly or how slowly you will take to learn but commit to learn, trust yourself and your coach and enjoy the journey! Students with water phobia for example, might take more time but they've been successful in learning to swim and what an achievement that is!
  • I want to lose weight, I want to be fitter, is swimming right for me?
Yes! Swimming is often touted as the 'best exercise' as you will be working on every part of your body. It is a cardiovascular exercise that helps in building your muscle strength and increases your heart rate. At the same time, it does not put stress on your joints which is especially important if you are overweight or have any back injuries/issues. To lose weight, the intensity of your exercise is important as well as regulating your food intake.
  • Why should I train with you?

  • I have problems with my breathing and technique, how can you help me?
Swimming is such a technical sport where small adjustments in technique can create huge improvements. These adjustments come down to the minute details of how high you lift up your head to breathe, the angle of your catch, to the timing of your kick, for example. Correcting even one aspect can improve the ease with which you swim and help you go faster. This is where we come in. In our Stroke Correction programme, we use Video Analysis to analyse your stroke and help you identify which aspect to correct that will make the greatest impact to the way you currently swim.
  • What is Video Analysis? How will it help my swim?
Video Analysis is provided as part of our Stroke Correction programme. We will film your swim from different angles and expertly analyse on a computer where improvements can be made in your stroke technique. The power of video analysis is in being able to see how you swim for yourself and for us coaches to analyse the minute but important details in your breathing, stroke and kicking. Equipped with this information, we coach you and prescribe corrective drills that will create the greatest impact to your swim.
  • What is a swim squad? Should I join?
A swim squad is a swim training session where you will swim with another 20-30 swimmers. Every session is conducted by a coach, with a training plan designed with a specific purpose in mind - from developing your technique to endurance and speed. Imagine running with a group of friends in a stadium, where you run loops around the track; in a swim squad, you swim with 4-6 swimmers in a lane, swimming in 100m loops of a lane. Everyone is seeded into lanes according to their individual swim time and level, providing the right amount of push and motivation to improve. Swimming in the squad is essential to develop your swim and build up your fitness if you're new; and push your endurance and pace if you're training for events. You will get addicted to the atmosphere of swimming with your squad mates while seeing your improvement in the time trials we take every quarter.
  • I am a new swimmer, can I join your swim squad?
Yes! We welcome beginner swimmers because you can only get better with practice and if you swim more. You can join the squad if you are able to swim freestyle for 100 metres continuously without stopping. We have a pre-squad, starting at a speed of 4:00 min per 100 metres, aimed to prepare you for the main squad. So don't worry if you see other squad swimmers looking 'too pro', we will help you develop your swim just as we did with them. We suggest you come for a trial session first so that you can experience how swimming in a squad is like while our coach can assess your level and advise on the best plan for you.
